SUMMARY:Harp Sessions at The Sugar Club | Tríona Marshall\, Ályth McCormack & Graham Henderson
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed Irish harper Tríona Marshall will perform with Scottish singer Ályth McCormack. Alyth is a highly respected interpreter of song and a long-standing featured singer with The Chieftains. Joining them is multi-instrumentalist\, composer and producer Graham Henderson. This performance showcases an exceptional trio of artists each of whom is renowned for their deep musicality and innovation. \nÁlyth and Tríona have shared a deep and enduring artistic connection. The late Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains  described their album Red & Gold as “From the heartland of Ireland to the shores of the Island of Lewis\, Tríona Marshall and Ályth McCormack have created a beautiful blend of harp music and song — showing how closely related our music and songs are.” \nThat musical relationship has now evolved with the addition of Graham Henderson\, who is producing their remarkable new album\, Time to Leave the Darkness. Henderson has enjoyed a distinguished career collaborating with icons like Sinéad O’Connor\, Dónal Lunny\, and Iarla Ó Lionáird. His unique perspective adds a rich new layer to Ályth and Tríona’s already distinctive sound creating new textures that define their new album and will be brought vividly to life in this concert. \nÁlyth and Graham’s creative partnership has flourished over recent years\, unearthing deeply personal songs that resonate with the universal themes of love\, loss\, empathy and understanding. The process has been profoundly cathartic\, resulting in music that speaks with honesty and depth and in a shared desire to bring that experience to audiences too. \nSimilarly\, Tríona and Graham are united by a deep love of sound\, texture and musical colour. This fascination pushes them to trace the edges of their instruments’ expressive possibilities. Combined with the remarkable clarity of Ályth’s voice\, the trio has developed a distinctive musical language that is new whilst also rooted in the traditions that have shaped them \nDate: Thursday 24th September\nTime: 8pm (doors 7:30pm)\nVenue: The Sugar Club\, 8 Leeson Street Lower\, Dublin 2\, D02 ET97\nTickets: Book here. \nBy contrast and as a complement to the Sugar Club presentation\, Tríona will perform a solo concert at Rathfarnham Castle on Thursday 8th October.  Playing with the mastery of a virtuoso and the voice of a storyteller\, the harp comes to life in her hands. She will deliver a performance that invites the audience into an intimate musical space\, where every note is meaningful\, and the surprising depth of a single instrument is revealed with colour and vitality and a timeless music that feels authentic and powerful.

SUMMARY:Cross Border Symposium 2026 | Teaching with Impact
DESCRIPTION:What makes teaching truly impactful? How can we grow as teachers as well as musicians?\nJoin us for our 2026 cross-border symposium\, a day exploring the art and craft of teaching. Our keynote speaker is Dr Liz Doherty\, traditional musician\, educator\, researcher and Founder of I Teach Trad. The day brings together teachers\, performers and learners to share ideas and practice and to reflect on how we pass on our music. \nFull programme and speakers to be announced. \n\nKeynote Address: The Teaching Musician\nDr Liz Doherty \nAs traditional musicians\, we devote a lifetime to developing our craft – practising\, performing\, listening\, learning and continually refining who we are as artists. But how often do we bring that same curiosity and commitment to our teaching? Teaching is an art\, a craft\, a science and a profession\, yet it is something many of us simply find ourselves doing\, drawing instinctively on what we know and how we ourselves were taught. In this keynote\, Liz Doherty invites us to think more deeply about the teaching musician: to explore the knowledge we already carry\, to become curious about how and why we teach as we do\, and to consider our development as teachers as an equally rich and lifelong journey. \n\nDr Liz Doherty (Keynote Speaker) \nDr Liz Doherty is a traditional musician\, educator and researcher from Buncrana\, Co. Donegal. An experienced fiddle teacher\, she has spent over 30 years teaching traditional music in Ireland and internationally\, alongside an extensive career in higher education\, where she taught and developed curricula in traditional music and music education. A National Teaching Fellow\, she holds a PhD in Cape Breton fiddle music and is author of The Cape Breton Fiddle Companion. Liz is Founder and Director of I Teach Trad\, developing training\, courses and resources for traditional music teachers\, including Read Music the TRAD Way\, her innovative approach to teaching music literacy in the traditional music context. She is also a performer\, arts consultant and television music producer. \nDate: Sunday 15 November\nTime: 11am – 5pm (lunch will be served)\nVenue: Vernon Studio\, Royal Irish Academy of Music\nTickets: €20/€15\, Registration Essential Register Here

SUMMARY:Harp Sessions at The Sugar Club | Aisling Lyons\, Becky Ní Eallaithe & Muireann Ní Shé
DESCRIPTION:Three exceptional artists working at the forefront of the Irish folk tradition: harper\, concertina player and composer Aisling Lyons\, sean-nós dancer\, singer and concertina player Becky Ní Éallaithe\, and uilleann piper and singer Muireann Ní Shé. Drawing on the rich traditions of their homeplaces – Cork\, Connemara\, and Clare\, this newly formed trio presents a programme of traditional music\, song and dance that honours Ireland’s living oral tradition while embracing fresh creative perspectives. Themes of the feminine voice\, place\, and the natural world emerge in a programme developed through an ongoing artistic collaboration. Bí Liom Bí weaves together music\, song and dance in performances that are both deeply rooted in tradition and unmistakably contemporary\, featuring newly composed works by Lyons\, Ní Shé and Ní Éallaithe. This performance is a celebration of tradition as a living\, breathing artform\, grounded in authenticity while driven by curiosity. \nDate: Saturday\, 6 February\nTime: 8pm (doors 7:30pm)\nVenue: The Sugar Club\, Leeson Street Lower\, St Kevins\, Dublin\nTickets: Book Here
