SUMMARY:UCC TradFest 2024
DESCRIPTION:UCC TradFest is back for another year\, bringing a brilliant programme of traditional Irish music to Cork City from the 8th to the 11th of February. The festival kicks off in UCC’s Music Department on Thursday the 8th at 5.15pm with the annual Ó Riada Lecture\, this year delivered by Professor Tríona Ní Shíocháin. \nOn Friday evening all roads will lead to Clancy’s at 7.30pm for the hotly-anticipated “Battle of the Bands”\, where trad bands from around the country will take to the stage in the hopes of winning the €500 cash prize and a gig at the renowned Patrick O’ Keeffe festival. \nSaturday’s programme is jam-packed\, beginning with instrumental workshops from 10am-1pm in UCC’s music department\, before a session trail will bring the finest traditional Irish musicians into some of the city’s most loved pubs. The festival’s headline concert features one of the most iconic trios in trad music\, Mick\, Louise and Michelle Mulcahy\, at 7.30pm in the Devere Hall on UCC’s main campus. \nThe festival programme will come to a conclusion on Sunday at 2pm in the Shtepps\, UCC Campus\, with “Ceolchoirm na nÓg” a celebration of some of the emerging young talent in Co.Cork\, followed by farewell sessions with UCC TradSoc.
