Geraldine has premiered and recorded many works by Irish composers including John Buckley\, Philip Martin\, Eric Sweeney\, Gerard Victory\, James Wilson\, Linda Buckley\, Garrett Sholdice\, Kevin O’Connell\, Anslem McDonnell and Caterina Schembri. She also recorded five albums of new arrangements and transcriptions of music for violin\, cello and harp with violinist David O’Doherty and cellist Moya O’Grady. DESCRIPTION:Join The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre and our guest Séamus Ó Flatharta for a Singing Session at TSEAC where it’s all about the art of song. \nLed by professional musicians\, Dónal Kearney\, Fergus Cahillane & Macdara Yeates\, ‘TSEAC Singing Sessions’ is an informal session where all participants are encouraged to perform and share songs in a relaxed environment. Our guest hosts will do their best to accommodate all those who wish to sing within the time constraints\, both on-site and on-line. SUMMARY:Boyne Tradfest | Harp workshop with Michael Rooney
DESCRIPTION:Join Boyne Trafest for a lively workshop with the talented musician Michael Rooney! Michael Rooney is a prolific composer and is widely regarded as one of the foremost players of the traditional Irish harp. \nOriginally from Scotstown\, Co. Monaghan and now a long time resident of County Sligo\, Michael has composed 19 suites of music in the past 20 years\, including ‘The Ulster Suite’ (2022)\, ‘Clairseoireacht’ (2022)\, Constance (2020)\, The Famine Suite (2019)\, The Macalla Suite (2016)\, Boróimhe Suite (2014)\, The Second Coming (2014)\, De Cuellar Suite (2011) and Battle of the Books Suite (2007). Michael was awarded the TG4 Composer of the Year in 2017. \nAn album of ‘The Macalla Suite’ was released in December 2016\, performed by The Macalla Orchestra and recorded Live in Monaghan. He has recorded three CDs with flute player and wife June McCormack; ‘Tobar an Cheoil’\, ‘Draíocht’ and ‘Land’s End’. He is also a member of Sligo’s Dartry Ceili Band. Michael has published four books of his own compositions; ‘Harp Tunes’ (2006)\, Aifreann Gaeilge (2012)\, ‘The de Cuéllar Suite’ (2012)\, ‘The Macalla Suite’ (2016). \nPlease note: \nRegistration opens at 9:30am. Meet the Historical Harp Society of Ireland\, hear this rare instrument played\, have your questions answered\, and – if you sign up early enough – take one of the few places in a hands-on beginners’ workshop. Harps copied from medieval to 18th-century originals will be available on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nAll Harps Alive workshops are free of charge. We welcome donations to help us cover our costs to support the next generation of harpers. Your help goes a long way as we work to develop and promote harping nationally and internationally.
