Clare will talk about the pedal harp tradition in Ireland in the nineteenth century - popularised by foreign virtuosi who traveled from London to perform and to teach. She will explore the repertoire of the tradition, particularly repertoire of Irish significance, including arrangements and fantasias of popular Irish melodies. She will also talk about Ireland's leading pedal harpist of the nineteenth century, Boleyne Reeves (1820 - 1905), who emigrated from Cork to London in 1831 and enjoyed a successful career as a performer and composer.
