Cruit Éireann, Harp Ireland celebrated harping in Ireland at a very special gala concert in Dublin Castle (The Printworks) on Saturday 30th November 2019. Featuring some of Ireland’s finest musicians, this concert was the culmination of a wonderfully active year of harping in Ireland and one that saw Ireland’s 1,000-year-old tradition continue to evolve and pass to a new generation of harp players.
Performing to a packed audience at the gala were musicians of the highest calibre showcasing the wealth of harp practice in Ireland.
Featured artists included Siobhán Armstrong (early Irish harp), Triona Marshall (Irish harp) with David Power (uilleann pipes), rising star Richard Allen (pedal harp), Laoise Kelly (Irish harp) and a specially curated group that included Cormac De Barra (Irish harp), singer, Sibéal Ní Chasaide, Éamonn de Barra (flute) and Odhrán Ó Casaide (fiddle). Highlights of the evening included the world premiere of ‘Cúige na gCruitirí’, a specially commissioned work by harper composer, Anne-Marie O’Farrell performed by the Cruit Éireann, Harp Ireland harp ensemble, a 40-person strong group of of young harpers from all over Ireland, led by Triona Marshall, Fiona Gryson and Claire O Donnell.
