Sheila Larchet Cuthbert at 100 – Her Life and Legacy

Audiences hear about the life and harping legacy of Sheila Larchet Cuthbert in her 100th year.

On Sunday 19th November 2023, harpers, teachers, musicians and friends of Sheila Larchet Cuthbert gathered at the Pepper Canister Church to honour her extraordinary life and enduring legacy in her 100th year.

Cruit Éireann | Harp Ireland were honoured to welcome Mary Cuthbert, Sheila’s daughter who delivered a special message from Sheila for the occasion. Former pupils and cherished friends, Professor Cliona Dorris, Denise Kelly O’Donnell, and Andreja Malir talked the audience through Sheila’s family background, orchestral work and international acclaim, illuminating her lifelong dedication to the Irish Harp. Their testimonials beautifully captured the profound influence Sheila has had on many, resulting in a poignant celebration of her unparalleled contributions to Irish Harping in Ireland.

The spoken word was complemented by the seamless blending of music and imagery offering new and interesting insights into significant moments of Sheila’s life and work. Archival recordings of Sheila performing reminded us of her music, and concluded with Cruit Éireann | Harp Ireland’s Harps for Hope video celebrating Sheila Larchet Cuthbert’s enormous contribution to Irish harping.

Our thanks to The Arts Council | An Chomhairle Ealaíon and The Heritage Council | An Chomhairle Oidhreachta for their support.
