National Harp Day 2018

Kerry Highlights

Muckross Harp trail
Coordinated by Deirdre Granville, Muckross House and Traditional farms played host to Slí na gCruit; the Muckross harp trail where small groups of harpers performed at various locations within the grounds of Muckross house and garden, including the Main house. Performers included Deirdre Granville and young members of the Kerry Harp ensemble, and Marina Biddy Blyth and her students at Killarney School of Music.

All in….

All harpers gathered together at 12pm for a group performance. There were substantial audiences and the harp was a source of great fascination to them. Thanks to Toddy Doyle and his staff at Muckross.

Killarney session
Lá na Cruite began at 2pm in Reidun’s Harp Centre in Killarney with a Harp Session followed at 3pm by a workshop on Improvisation and Harp accompaniment finishing up with a concert at 4pm by Reidun Schlesinger and her students.

Dingle harpers
Later in the day, a cosy concert was hosted by Harper Deirdre Granville by the fireside in McCarthy’s bar, Dingle. Deirdre was joined by other harpers including Proinnsias Ó Cathasaigh and Bríd Fitzgerald for an informal and welcoming session.
