National Harp Day 2019
South West HighlightsBoth Kerry and West Cork were alive with the sound of the harp on National Harp Day this year. A range of concerts and ‘Try a Harp’ taster sessions took place at An Ionad Cultúrtha, Baile Mhuirne, Killarney Library, Dingle Library, St Mary’s Church, Dingle and various other town venues given by harpers including Catríona McKay, Damhnait Nic Suibhne, Deirdre Granville, Marina Biddy Blyth, Dervla and Hamish O Carroll and Prionnsias Ó Cathasaigh. Pop-up concerts also took place at Centra, Supervalu, The Marina and An Diseart Gardens in Dingle. Ensembles delighting audiences locally featured Glissando Harp Ensemble, Cruitirí na Ríochta, Tim Carroll and Killarney Harps. The event was given great coverage by The Kerryman.
All in all, National Harp Day was a huge success in the south west!
