National Harp Day 2019
Galway HighlightsA delightful day was had at Galway Museum with terrific support and consideration from the museum staff. The day kicked off with a splendid display of harps by Natalie Surina, Paul Dooley and Brian Callen. A wonderful student concert was followed by a well-attended and appreciated talk/recital on the MSS of Patrick O Neill from South Tipperary /Kilkenny border. The MSS give a very interesting picture of C18 popular music collected in the south east of the country and a valuable addition to the already existing collections.
The day concluded with a concert presenting delightful and varied harping content in terms of repertoire and styles. Performers included Holly Geraghty, Paul Dooley, Aisling Lyons, Úna Ní Fhlannagáin, Maura Uí Chróinín, Natalie Surina, Aoife Blake, Francesca Lundvall, Áine Ní Shioradáin, Kathleen Loughnane.
TG4 provided coverage of the event.
Sincere thanks to the museum staff for their support throughout what was a wonderful celebration of the harp in Galway.
