The Drive for Five

The Drive for Five – A Global Call for the Education of Adolescent Girls event took place in New York 11 February, featuring five young musicians from Music Gene ration Louth’s trad music programme – through its successful partnership programme with Oriel Centre Dundalk, Comhaltas Regional Centre.

The event was hosted by the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the UN, to launch the #DriveForFive Campaign – a call for the education of adolescent girls. Bono and Mary Robinson officially launched the campaign with partners including the One Foundation, the Global Partnership for Education and UN Women. The event was also attended by UN Secretary General António Guterres, and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Women Executive Director.

The event closed with a performance by members of the Pihcintu Chorus (a choir of refugee girls based in Portland, Maine), the UN Choir and five of our own Young Ambassadors, each of whom has been a member of Nós Nua – Louth Youth Folk Orchestra.
